EASTMAN SCHOOL OF MUSIC

Jewish student life at the Eastman School of Music is a creative and tight-knit community.  In the past students have held weekly Kaballat Shabbat services, Passover Seders, Purim parties, and Chanukah candle lighting and singing for all eight nights. Not just a religious outlet, Eastman students have come together for movie nights and Chinese food, bagels and board games, and educational speakers, as well as collaborating with other campus groups in social action endeavors. In the spring semester Eastman students and faculty perform an annual concert of music by Jewish composers for the Rochester community.  All Eastman students have access to the University of Rochester Hillel events. Overall, Jewish student life activity at Eastman is always accompanied by ruach – a zest for Jewish song and spirit – and represents a bright community of Jewish musicians.
