Jewish life at the University of Rochester

Jewish student life here at the University of Rochester is vibrant, pluralistic, welcoming, and inclusive. Hillel helps to foster student growth, Jewish learning, and relationships. We serve approximately 900 undergraduate Jewish students as well as a large number of Jewish graduate students, faculty and staff.

Our programs reflect the great diversity of our students lives. We have weekly Shabbat opportunities, free meals, social and cultural programming, alternative breaks, holiday services and celebrations, two Birthright Israel trips a year, and so much more!

Our campus and Hillel cultures encourage student personal development through spiritual, social, and intellectual channels. Our students pursue social justice, embrace and support the State of Israel, and are learning to become participating members of the global Jewish community.

Here at Hillel, we provide a safe space for our students to come into their own, explore Judaism, and develop leadership and professional skills. We are here to guide and support them through their journeys in becoming active members of the Jewish and adult communities and in their own personal practices.

Hillel provides a community on campus that is hard to find elsewhere. There is a feeling of support and family, both among the students and from our staff. It is unique because we do not just come together because we care about the same things or are active in the same things, but because we simply want to be Jewish together.
